Founded in 2000, Coastal Plains Outdoors began as a natural extension of Brit Barker’s love of the outdoors and especially hunting. What began as a passion for hunting transitioned into a desire to protect the opportunity for future generations. Brit was able to use his knowledge of insurance, with the help of some great companies involved in the outdoor service industry, to specifically address many of the unique exposures facing hunting destinations, sporting communities, guides and outfitters, and private plantations along with non profit organizations.

What an exciting and dynamic goal and journey it has been. In the early period there were very limited carriers offering insurance. Now we have an exciting array of different carriers that allow CPO to provide options for clients varying from the single hunting or fishing guide to the upscale resort featured on television. We have worked very hard to provide specialty products to many of the industries serving the outdoors from retail sporting stores to the National Taxidermist Association. We have accounts from coast to coast, from “The Great White North” to the “Sunshine State.”

CPO has a full time staff dedicated to providing quality service and risk management tools and advice to our clients. Along with Brit’s considerable knowledge and expertise in the outdoor world and the field of insurance field, we have Sam Britt and Stacy Bennett. Sam is able to use his life long love of the outdoors, and experience charter fishing, professional fishing and managing hunt clubs, to provide clients with a unique approach to handling their insurance needs. Stacy, while new to the CPO program, has four years in the insurance industry and is herself an inspiring outdoorswoman.

With the wide array of products to suit just about every situation, it is more important than ever for the staff at CPO to provide consultative approach to each client. We strive to understand the risk to all involved parties, from the land owner to the club members, from the guide to the resort.

While CPO is a separate department, we are part of Coastal Plains Insurance. CPI was founded in 1912 and is a full service independent agency. We are able to offer a custom tailored program for everything from homeowners to all types of business insurance. We have programs specifically for high value homes to ocean front condos, from main street business to specialty contractors, life and health for individuals to large groups. Financial services include setting up retirement for individuals to providing payroll and Employment Practices Liability Insurance solutions to large corporations.
